The Chris Economaki Aspiring Journalist Award was created by Maxim Sports Management (MSM) in 2005. The program was spawned from the Red Bull Driver Search, which was initiated by MSM to put an American driver back in Formula 1 motor racing. The RBDS achieved its ultimate goal in 2006 with Scott Speed (winner of the inaugural RBDS) racing in Formula 1 for the Scuderia Toro Rosso. The goal for the EAJA is to find the Scott Speed of motorsport journalism.
